Company History

Don Strong founded Strong's Crane Service in 1947. Don's son, Dick sold his excavation company in 1956 to invest in his father's crane business with intentions of expanding. It was hard for them to know then that their company would continue to grow well into the 21st century.

After 22 years of hard work in the crane business, Don retired in 1969 and his son Dick took over the family business. In efforts to continue being the best crane company in Montana, Strong's purchased their first hydraulic crane in 1969 and a 125-ton lattice boom truck crane in 1974, at that time, the largest in the State of Montana.

Dick's son Doug followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps when he came to work for the company as a crane operator in 1978. Dick and his son worked together for another 17 years expanding the business and serving residential, industrial and commercial businesses throughout Montana and Northern Wyoming before Dick retired in 1995.

When Doug took over the family business in 1995 and continuing thru March of 2013, the focus of the company had been to modernize the fleet of cranes and equipment for all of its loyal customers. The additions in late 2012 of a 360 ton All Terrain and a 2013 - 275 Ton Link-Belt Hydraulic All Terrain Crane were perfect examples of Strong’s commitment to greatly improve safety on the jobsite and lower costs through better roadability, faster setup times and more efficient on site operations.

2013 has Strong's Crane Service entering its 66th year of business and headed in a new direction. April 1, 2013 the crane service side of Strong’s was sold to JMS Crane and Rigging of Billings. Strong’s has retained its name and will continue in business as a Link Belt Cranes and Lift All Slings distributor. With our past experience and focusing on the crane industry, we are poised to continue to service our Link Belt customers with parts, service and sales, as well as offer rigging sales, lift planning and consulting options for all of the crane industry.
